The Nikon FM2n’s titanium honeycomb shutter was a revolutionary vertical metal focal-plane shutter featuring chemically etched titanium plates with a honeycomb pattern to reduce weight while maintaining strength. This design enabled an extremely fast 1/4000s shutter speed and 1/250s flash sync, a significant leap in mechanical shutter technology at the time. The unique honeycomb etching increased rigidity and durability, ensuring reliable operation in extreme temperatures.
