Canon Speedlite Transmitter ST-E2
The Canon Speedlite Transmitter ST-E2 is a small, lightweight infrared master controller designed to trigger and manage up to two groups of remote wireless E-TTL / E-TTL II Speedlites without interconnecting wires. It mounts directly to the camera’s hot shoe, supports ratio control and high-speed sync, and includes a built-in infrared AF-assist beam for low-light focusing.
Key Features
E-TTL II Integration: Works smoothly with compatible Canon EOS cameras for precise automatic flash metering.
Ratio Control: Adjusts the relative light output balance between two independent flash groups (Group A and Group B) from 8:1 to 1:8 in half-step increments.
AF-Assist Beam: Projects an infrared focus pattern to help camera autofocus lock accurately in dark environments.
Operating Range: Reaches roughly 12 to 15 meters indoors and 8 to 10 meters outdoors
Camera Body Compatibility
The transmitter mounts onto standard camera hot shoes. It communicates differently based on the camera generation:
Type A EOS Cameras (DSLR & Film): Fully compatible with all digital DSLRs (e.g., Rebel series, 5D series, 80D, 1DX) and late-model film cameras (EOS-3, 1V). These support full E-TTL / E-TTL II automatic metering and ratio controls.
Type B EOS Cameras (Early Film): Limited compatibility with older manual-metering film bodies. The transmitter will only fire the remote flashes in manual mode.
EOS R Mirrorless Cameras: Physical mounting works on standard shoes (like the R5 or R6). However, newer models utilizing the Multi-Function Accessory Shoe (like the R3, R7, R10, or EL-series setups) require the multi-function shoe adapter to fit standard 5-pin legacy feet.
Speedlite Flash Compatibility
The ST-E2 functions exclusively as an optical master unit. It can trigger any Canon Speedlite that contains a built-in optical wireless receiver.
Fully Compatible (Optical Receivers Built-in)These legacy flashes can be split into Groups A and B, maintaining full E-TTL autoflash and ratio control via the ST-E2:
Speedlite 550EX / 580EX / 580EX II
Speedlite 420EX / 430EX / 430EX II
Macro Ring Lites MR-14EX / MR-24EX
The transmitter is in excellent used cosmetic condition, please see photos provided.
