The Carl Zeiss 10-100mm f/1.8 Vario-Sonnar T* Type II (Mark II) is a legendary fast cinema zoom lens designed primarily for standard 16mm and convertible to Super 16mm film cameras

Optical Design: Features Zeiss T* anti-reflective coating for high contrast, deep color saturation, and well-controlled chromatic aberration.
Build & Mechanics: Robust cinema housing with smooth mechanical focus, zoom, and iris rings, commonly found with Arri PL or bayonet mounts.
When a lens description says “Only for Arriflex 16SR,” it means the lens mechanical body or mount has been physically modified specifically for that camera system and will not work on standard cameras without damaging them or the lens.
Why This Restriction Exists
Deep Rear Element: The Carl Zeiss 10-100mm MK II has a rear glass element that sticks out very far past the lens mount.
Mirror Shutter Clearance: Inside the Arriflex 16SR, the spinning mirror shutter is positioned with enough clearance to avoid hitting this specific deep glass.
Damage Risk: If you try to mount this specific lens on other cameras (like an Arriflex 16BL, Aaton, or a modern mirrorless digital camera), the protruding glass will physically smash into the internal shutter or digital sensor, destroying both the camera and the lens
Modified Mount: The lens likely features a unique Arri Bayonet or PL mount alignment specifically machined to lock safely only into the 16SR camera body.
