Leica Leitz Hektor 50mm f/2.5 Lens

This is an unusually early example and has several features of particular interest to Leica collectors:

The lens has the characteristic early nickel construction and is a particularly interesting example for a collector of early Leica equipment.

Condition

The lens is in used antique/vintage condition, with age-related marks, wear and patina to the nickel finish. Please study all photographs carefully as the photographs form an important part of the description.

Optics:

The front optic has some dust/dirt around the outer edge. There are also some small internal particles/dirt visible within the lens.

There are small air bubbles visible within the glass, which are characteristic of some early optical glass from this period and are an interesting feature for collectors and a sign of high quality glass.

The front element has a small amount of light cleaning marks, consistent with the age of the lens. I have deliberately not attempted to clean or polish the front optic, as I do not want to risk causing further marks or damage to the original glass.

The optics are therefore being sold as photographed, and I strongly recommend studying the photographs carefully.

Mechanically:

Focusing operates smoothly.
Aperture operates smoothly.
Focusing mechanism functions correctly.
Aperture blades appear to operate correctly.

Given the age and rarity of this lens, I believe it is preferable to leave the optics in their present original condition rather than attempt any unnecessary cleaning.
