The SMC Pentax-F 35–70 mm f/3.5–4.5 is a compact autofocus zoom lens for Pentax K-mount 35 mm and full-frame digital SLRs, produced from 1987 to 1991. It features an 8-element/8-group optical design, a 6-blade automatic diaphragm, and Pentax’s Super Multi-Coating (SMC) for improved contrast and flare resistance. With a variable aperture of f/3.5 at 35 mm to f/4.5 at 70 mm, it offers a versatile standard zoom range in a lightweight package.
The lens focuses down to 0.32 m in macro mode, delivering a 0.25× magnification, and uses a 49 mm filter thread. It weighs just 235 g and measures 67 × 50 mm, making it one of the smallest and lightest zooms in the Pentax F-series. Autofocus is screw-driven, and the lens includes an “A” setting on the aperture ring, enabling full Program and Shutter-priority modes on compatible bodies.
