The Rolleicord I, famously known as the “Art Deco” or “Tapeten” (Wallpaper) Rolleicord, was the first pattern of the Rolleicord twin-lens reflex (TLR) series, produced by Franke & Heidecke in Braunschweig, Germany, between November 1933 and March 1936. It is distinguished by its unique, decorative, and nickel-plated “trompe-l’oeil” grid pattern covering the sides, top, and front, often regarded as a highly collectable piece of 1930s design.

Key Features and Specifications (c. 1933–1936)

Design & Aesthetics: The camera features a distinctive Art Deco pattern on its metal faceplates, knobs, and panels, with a “wallpaper” (Tapeten) pattern on the sides. The finish is generally nickel-plated, although some variations exist.

Production Numbers: Approximately 32,508 units were built.

Lenses: Taking Lens: Carl Zeiss Jena Triotar 75mm f/4.5 (often uncoated).
